Tips For Finding the Right Remodeler

Springfield, VT Remodeling Contractor

Make sure you find remodeler you can trust when it comes to your home.

No matter what your home improvement project, you can find any number of remodelers in Vermont. But how can you know that you’re choosing the right remodeler? Everyone will, of course, claim to be the best. While recommendations from family and friends can be initially helpful, ultimately the choice is yours and you’ll need more than simply a contractor’s word for it. Here are a few of our tips for finding the right remodeler for your home.

Know What You Want Beforehand

Contractors can work with you to plan your home improvement project, but you should do your own planning beforehand. Do some homework to find out whether what you want is possible and write out a clear idea of what you want. When you have this in mind, you can hold it up to what contractors are able to offer you so you won’t have to settle. You may find that no contractor is able to offer you exactly what you had in mind, due to limitations of their own industry, but if you find someone who can get you as close as possible, that’s a good indication.

Interview Multiple Contractors

Never make a decision until you’ve talked to at least three different contractors. It’s easy for one contractor to tell you they offer the best value or that they can do the most for your project, but talking to just one other contractor may tell you that’s not actually the case. Get quotes and ask plenty of questions. Ask for referrals or examples of their past work so you have something a little more than simply their sales pitch.

Check Reviews

Asking for referrals is a start to this process, but you should also check online reviews. The contractor will likely have reviews listed on their website, which are important to read, but they may only be positive. Consider checking Google, Facebook, Yelp, Houzz, or Angie’s List for a clearer and less biased picture of customer reviews. An occasional bad review in a sea of good reviews may simply speak to an individual experience or a biased customer. Take the whole for the most part, but do read the individual reviews for any patterns that might crop up.
