What To Expect During a Roof Replacement Project

arrow pointing upwards to look like a road for roof replacement expectations

So you’ve had the roof inspection and decided that the best thing to do is to replace your current roof. You picked a contractor and set the date. But as the time draws nearer, you might find yourself a little apprehensive. What can you expect from your upcoming roof replacement? It depends on your contractor and the type of roof in some part. But there are some standards that you can count on when it comes to your roof replacement. Here is our guide to roof replacement expectations.

The Process

On the first day that the roof replacement team shows up, they will remove your old roof. Some roofers will attempt to install your new roof over the old one, but this is generally ill advised. They will bring a bin to dispose of the old roof material and clean up the mess. From there, roofers can inspect the roof decking to make sure there’s no rot or structural issues. Then the new roof will be installed, after which the mess from the construction is cleared. The whole thing typically takes between 1 and 7 days.

Noise and Construction Debris

With any home improvement project, there’s bound to be some noise and some mess from the construction. A true professional will keep disruptions to a minimum and clean up when the work is over. However, some construction noise is unavoidable. If you’re sensitive to loud noise or need to work throughout the day, you may want to stay somewhere else during the roof replacement, or at least to leave during the day. Make sure to protect your belongings with plastic covering, as well.

Pets and Children

If you have pets and small children, try to keep them inside for the duration of the project. Wandering onto the construction site can be potentially dangerous for both. If you choose to stay somewhere else during the roof replacement, make sure that you choose pet friendly accommodations or find a place to board your pets rather than leaving them inside and alone for the duration of the project.
